LECTURE
Exercise 1:
Lecture teach us clip of making video.
( Exercise 1 Video 1 )
( Exercise 1 Video 2 )
( Exercise 1 Video 3 )
( Exercise 1 Video 4 )
For this exercise, we need to combine these four videos to one.
Completed work is below.
( Exercise 1 completed video )
Exercise 2:
Lecture teach us how to make stop motion video for reference of making final project work.
The story used in this exercise was about two separate characters. One of them falls in love with the other and tries to talk to them, but gets rejected because they don’t look the same. The rejected character then changes their appearance to match the one they love. In the end, the two characters kiss, bringing the story to a close.
We use Smartphone and Camera for taking this story stop motion video. The reason I filmed the same story twice using both a smartphone and a camera was to explore which device better matched the style and quality I wanted for my project.

WORK
For this project, Digital Animation specialisation student need to make stop motion video.
This is the slide that I make for this stop motion project.
( Slide for this project )
For making stop motion video, I start to make story first.
Story - A young girl cries alone in a dark field under the night sky, overwhelmed by sadness. Suddenly, a star falls gently onto her head. As she picks it up, the once empty sky begins to shine with starlight. She closes her eyes, and when she opens them again, it’s no longer night — the sun has risen. This short stop-motion film represents the journey from despair to hope, inspired by the meaning of the tarot card The Star, which symbolizes healing, guidance, and renewal.
The lecturer instructed us to choose a theme based on a tarot card, and I drew the Star card. So, I created a story related to the meaning of the Star tarot card.
Next step, I draw the story board.
( Story Board 1 )
( Story Board 2 )
This is the story board that I draw. I carefully described what each scene would look like and added the estimated duration for every three boxes. This made it easier to calculate how many photos I would need to take for each box during the shooting process.
In the third step, I used the storyboard I had drawn to figure out what materials would be needed. As a result, I found that I would need the following items:
・Clay (red, white, orange, and light blue)
・Black background
・White background
・Colored paper (green for grass, yellow for the star, orange for the sun, and black paper for scene transitions)
After gathering all the necessary materials, I started the actual stop-motion shooting.

This is the picture during the shooting process.
The images I took during the shoot are stored in the Google Drive folder at the URL below.

After taking a photos for stop motion video, I start to edit the video by using After Effect and Premiere Pro.
( Premiere Pro editing screen )
I use After Effect just for combine images to video so mainly I use Premiere Pro for making stop motion video. It was challenging to think of and find suitable sound effects that matched the stop-motion video.

Finally, stop motion video completed. You can watch the video from YouTube Link below. (Because of size of the video, I cant put directly in here)

REFLCETION
In this final project, I learned how to shoot and create a stop-motion animation.
At first, when I was told to create a 30-second story based on the tarot card The Star, I felt unsure if I could come up with a good story. However, in the end, I believe I was able to create a piece I’m personally proud of.
For the story, I focused strongly on the theme of “hope.” I tried to express this by contrasting two emotional scenes — the night, which is often associated with sadness or loneliness, and the morning, which gives a sense of brightness and happiness. I think using stars in the night scene worked especially well with the tarot card’s meaning, and I’m happy with how the story turned out.
One challenge I faced was that, even though I had calculated the length of each scene and the number of photos I’d need when drawing the storyboard, I still ended up with fewer frames than expected during shooting. This made the video shorter than planned. I had to reshoot some scenes and adjust the video in editing, which was difficult and time-consuming.
If I make another stop-motion video in the future, I’d like to plan the timing and number of frames more carefully. I also want to try making a video with a higher frame rate next time to achieve smoother animation.
