Organic Modeling (Character)

In this task, we are required to model a character. First, we need to choose a character to model, and I decided to model a character named Nyaoha from the Pokémon series.

These are the reference images that I used for modeling.

First, I modeled Nyaoha's face. The face was created by moving points from a sphere. Shaping it this way was very challenging.

Next, I added another sphere and used the G key to reshape it, creating the part that would become the character's body.

After creating the body, I added a new cylinder and deleted all faces except for one side. Using the Mirror function and the G key, I adjusted the shape to create the character's tail. It was very challenging and difficult to achieve the rounded shape of the tail.

In the fourth step, I added a new cube and edited it to create the character's chest fur.

( Blender editing screen 5 )

I first created the smaller chest fur and then moved on to the larger one. For the larger chest fur, I also added a new cube and, similar to the tail creation process, left only one side of the face intact. Using the mirror function, I ensured it was symmetrical on both sides and editted.

After finishing the chest fur, I added a new cylinder and edited it to create the character's legs. Initially, I tried to use the mirror function to create just one leg and then duplicate it into four, but I couldn’t get it to work correctly. In the end, I created four separate cylinders to form the character's legs. Next time, I hope to successfully use the mirror or other functions for this task.

Finally, I added a sphere to the face to serve as the nose, completing the modeling process.

This is the final 3D model with colors applied. The coloring process was particularly challenging for the face. I used Blender's Knife tool and Loop Cut tool to add additional surfaces for each color area, such as the white and pink of the eyes and the patterns around them, and then applied the corresponding colors. While this method worked for this project, I believe there are more efficient techniques out there. I plan to earning by watching tutorials on YouTube and improving my skills.

Overall, I had always wanted to take a class on creating 3D models, so I’m really happy that I was able to create a character at a level I’m satisfied with in the end. Through the 3D modeling class, I learned the basics of using Blender, and I plan to continue studying advanced techniques through resources like YouTube. My goal is to gain the skills needed to apply for an internship in the 3D modeling field. Moving forward, I’d also like to challenge myself by creating humanoid characters.
