2. Write visual analysis of the selected design

Title: プラスチックの海 (Plastic Sea)
Illustrator: Julia Bratman
Year: 2020.06.05 (05.June.2020)
Size: B12
Medium:

This design is a horizontal design. In the center is a small boat with a small children on it, and around it are depicted sea creatures such as dolphins, rays, seals, sea turtles, and marlin, as well as garbage such as kang. In the lower right corner, characters related to the illustration are written. In terms of visual elements, blue, light blue, and white are the main colors. The overall design gives a gloominess.

The design principles included in this design can be found in Emphasis, where a children and a small boat are depicted in the center of the vortex, where nature and perspective are concentrated in a small boat, and Repetition is depicted in the depiction of creatures and garbage floating in the sea. Also, from the upper left to the lower right of the design, you can see the gradation where the color of the sea changes from light to dark. In addition, you can see the movement of the ripple from the use of colors, creatures such as fish, and the place where garbage is drawn. And Finally, from the peaceful atmosphere you can also discover elements of harmony.

This design was drawn as the cover of a children's picture book called "The Sea of Plastic", which was released on June 5, 2020. Julia Bratman drew this design, and the size of the design is B12. From the drawing of small children on a small boat, I thought that this design was drawn not to convey the problem of marine pollution to adults, but to convey a message to the children who will support the future. By drawing a lot of creatures and a lot of garbage in a beautiful sea, I think that artist trying to make children think about why there is so much garbage when they see this design, and to get them interested in the problem of marine pollution from a young age.
