CLASS SUMMARY

Week7

I was taught about the types of pens I would need for the next class using images and actual objects.

Week9

Had the sketch for an assignment given last week corrected, and I received advice on creating an original font.

Week10

Received feedback on a font I created based on a sketch using Illustrator.

Week11

Still making the original font. From this week, use the "font lab" and I started changing the font data to one that can actually be used in Illustrator etc.

Week12

Continuing from last week, we created a font while receiving feedback.

Week13

Created a simple poster using the font I created.

WORK

Work (Week7)

Draw a sketch of your original font using three types of 3.0 size markers.

(Idea #1)

(Idea #2)

(Idea #3)

I came up with four font ideas: a font idea that takes the form of the characters I draw, a font idea that uses pixels to draw the characters, a font idea inspired by Japanese calligraphy, and a font idea that uses the characters I draw in bold.

Work (Week9)

Draw the characters (o l e d s n c h t i g , . ! #) using an original font that you created.

(The font I made)

Work (Week10)

Modify the design I created last week.

(The font I made)

First, the heights of O and C were not aligned with the other letters, so I made them line up. And then, I edited the width of S, the letter E, and the shape of N. The picture below are new design of N.

(New design of N)

I liked the design on the right, so I chose the design on the right. The image below shows the final font design.

(Completed font)

Personally, I think G and N have a unique personality that is not found in other fonts.

Work (Week11)

(Other word using original font)

Write the word using by my original font. And check the valance

Import the created font into Font Lab.

(Editing screen in font lab)

The normal letter is easy to import but "!", "," and "#" letter are little difficult to edit.

Work (Week12)

Type letters in Font Lab and balance between letters.

(Black color)

(White color)

FEED BACKS

Week9

Second one is the most likely. Third one also good but you need always apply a thin stroke. Other than the one drawn with the number 2 pen, the 6th letter drawn with the number 3 pen is the most suitable for the task.

Week10

Align text height. If there is a rule for the width of the characters, align them. It might be better to arrange the N shape more. For example, try moving the place where the diagonal line is inserted.

Week11

No feed backs.

Week12

It is better to match the size of , and . to the size of the circle in !.

REFLECTION

Experience - I really enjoyed the experience of coming up with my own original font and creating it for the first time. Until now, I had thought that fonts were something you could buy from a sales site or something you could download from a download site, but through this class I was able to acquire the new idea that fonts are something you can make yourself.

Observations - I noticed that letters consistently have a line that serves as a reference.

Findings - I am now able to draft ideas before creating a design, but the ideas that come up are all simple, so next time I will try to come up with more innovative ideas. I would like to create.
